       Centrino Pentium M

The Dell Latitude D810 ($2,799 new from Dell) is a desktop-replacement notebook for the corporate set. It packs quite a performance punch, thanks to the latest Intel mobile technologies.

The 8-pound D810 is a managable to carry, besides you'll be fine with the extra heft needed to gain the 15.4-inch widescreen display.

The D810 is built around the new Centrino platform and is a powerhouse desktop replacement.

For connectivity, there are four USB 2.0 ports and a serial port, but no FireWire port or multimedia card slots. Docking solutions are compliant across the entire D family, and comprise a port replicator ($200 direct), a docking station ($359), and a viewing stand ($69).

As for security, TPM 1.1 (Trusted Platform Module) permits users to create and store encryption keys. The D810 also comes with a built-in smart-card reader and Intel's Execute Disable Bit hardware antivirus support. In addition, users will have access to Dell's OpenManage client software, which includes hardware configuration utilities and management tools. The suite also contains Altiris's Backup/Recovery Solutions, which can take snapshots of your entire hard drive or of specific files. Unlike IBM's Access tools, the OpenManage suite is not tied to one interface and lacks integration among the sea of applications.
